1st Annual Blogiversary GIVEAWAY!


Hello everyone!  I can't believe next Saturday, May 1st will mark the first anniversary of my blog, 
Patina Moon! 
I remember reading other art blogs and being so inspired, I wanted to start my own, but what would it be about?  I'm not a professional photographer or an artist.  I'm just someone who likes to craft, garden, and take photographs, so I guess I just started with "what I knew" and went from there! 


I'd like to celebrate this one year Blogiversary with my first GIVEAWAY! 
For me, it's been all about letting out my creative sprit and not being afraid to share it with others.  Once I began to blog I realized there were so many like minded creative spirits out there just like me! 
I'd like to thank all my followers, and fellow bloggers out there who have visited Patina Moon over the past year and left me words of encouragement and sweet comments. 
Some of the things that I'd like to give are things that I've blogged about in the past, so I will put together a delightful arrangement of vintage lace, lavender from my garden, soldering "attempts" :-) and I'm working on one of my embroidered pillows just for you!  
Here's a sneak preview of what I have together so far...



I know, I need to get busy on this pillow if I'm going to be giving it away, but I just couldn't wait to share the fun with you now!

Last time I told you I would share with you a "project" that I was working on, so here it is.  I'm really having fun making these little embroidered creations/pillows. 


I think these are going to be more of an art quilt/fabric collage than a pillow this time.

Watercolor on Tea Bags

Hello Friends!  Hope you are enjoying your weekend, especially  if this is a long weekend for you!  It seems like I've been drinking a lot of tea lately, so I  thought it was time to get out my tea bags  and get creative!  This is a mixed-media piece on watercolor paper. First, I tore pieces of the tea bags and glued them to the  watercolor paper to start my background. This is another piece I started just today where I decided to use a rubber stamp before applying the tea bags for added interest.  I love the color and texture the tea bags create.  After the background was dry, I started to sketch out my design.   The dragonfly is a rubber stamp. Finally, a little simple hand stitching on linen for added texture. The light was so beautiful and inviting on my desk today. Oh, and don't you just love my new pencil box I got at the  second-hand store for 97 cents?

The Art of A Rain Chain

"Art"   is probably not the first word that comes to mind for most people when it rains.  If you have ever seen a  Rain Chain   then maybe you'll understand why I think of it this way.  copper, metal, patina, design, texture, beauty... peaceful,  mesmerizing... If you've read my blog for some time, you might remember, this "desert girl" is fascinated with  rain chains. :-) I'm still traveling...Seattle...it's raining... Creating Art with Tea Bags

As summer approaches and the sunshine is plentiful here in the  desert southwest, I drink a lot of this... Making sun tea here only takes a short time. I've been using 6 regular size tea bags for the above container. (I like a pretty strong flavor)  You can add sugar or not, I enjoy it with a little mint leaves & lemon and  sometimes an added sweetener.  I started having so many tea bags and I've seen my friend Kimmie   create art with them, so I thought I'd give it a try!  I just let the bags completely dry,  remove the tag & staple then open them up carefully and empty the tea. Open the bags at the seam line and this is what you have,  beautifully tea stained papers for collage, sewing, etc.  Here, I used old dictionary book paper to create my flower design on water color paper.  I painted the flowers with watercolors.  Collaged torn tea bags onto the background, then stitched around  each flower for dimension.  This book mark I made using water
