Natures Purples and Blues

Hello friends...






I hope you're not tired of seeing purple and blue yet.





I see from looking back at my last post,

Hyacinth & Hearts


It's pretty obvious I tend to gravitate toward

flowers of this color.






There's a lot of "Spring" popping up around here lately, 

and giving me Spring Fever, 

even though it's still very chilly.





These little beauties were calling out to me, and 

didn't seem to be bothered by the February chill in the air. 





Tomorrow, I'm going to the

Northwest Flower and Garden Show in Seattle.

Have you ever been?

I hear it's quite the event!



I'm doing a little crocheting today in between laundry...

guess what color of crochet thread I'm using?

Just gorgeous...can't wait for Spring. We just got 11.5" of snow so we won't be seeing anything peek through for a few days. Hope you have fun!

No, I'm not tired of seeing purple and blue! :-) Quite the contrary!! We are still covered in snow here - no sign of spring or any color at all! So I'm so happy to see the beautiful colours and flowers here! Do take your camera to the garden show - can't wait to see the photos! :-) Have a great day!

I will never be tired of purples and blues..so soothing, and cheerful at the same time.

The NWFGS is amazing...well at least it was all the years I have gone before...we used to charter a bus of gardeners such fun.

Especially when everyone smuggled the illegal plants back...lol.

Oh, how I love blue flowers! They don't show up very well from far away so I'm saving the bright sunflowers and those kinds of colors for down by the road (when we finally dig that garden! ;)) In the meantime, all along the house - right there where we can see it through the windows, there are shades of blue and lavender and anything that will go with those flowers! =]

These irises and the Valentine hyacinths are a refreshing balm to this winter weary heart!!! =]

Watercolor on Tea Bags

Hello Friends!  Hope you are enjoying your weekend, especially  if this is a long weekend for you!  It seems like I've been drinking a lot of tea lately, so I  thought it was time to get out my tea bags  and get creative!  This is a mixed-media piece on watercolor paper. First, I tore pieces of the tea bags and glued them to the  watercolor paper to start my background. This is another piece I started just today where I decided to use a rubber stamp before applying the tea bags for added interest.  I love the color and texture the tea bags create.  After the background was dry, I started to sketch out my design.   The dragonfly is a rubber stamp. Finally, a little simple hand stitching on linen for added texture. The light was so beautiful and inviting on my desk today. Oh, and don't you just love my new pencil box I got at the  second-hand store for 97 cents?

The Art of A Rain Chain

"Art"   is probably not the first word that comes to mind for most people when it rains.  If you have ever seen a  Rain Chain   then maybe you'll understand why I think of it this way.  copper, metal, patina, design, texture, beauty... peaceful,  mesmerizing... If you've read my blog for some time, you might remember, this "desert girl" is fascinated with  rain chains. :-) I'm still traveling...Seattle...it's raining... Creating Art with Tea Bags

As summer approaches and the sunshine is plentiful here in the  desert southwest, I drink a lot of this... Making sun tea here only takes a short time. I've been using 6 regular size tea bags for the above container. (I like a pretty strong flavor)  You can add sugar or not, I enjoy it with a little mint leaves & lemon and  sometimes an added sweetener.  I started having so many tea bags and I've seen my friend Kimmie   create art with them, so I thought I'd give it a try!  I just let the bags completely dry,  remove the tag & staple then open them up carefully and empty the tea. Open the bags at the seam line and this is what you have,  beautifully tea stained papers for collage, sewing, etc.  Here, I used old dictionary book paper to create my flower design on water color paper.  I painted the flowers with watercolors.  Collaged torn tea bags onto the background, then stitched around  each flower for dimension.  This book mark I made using water
