Season of Light

Image
Hi Friends!  How's your holiday season going?  Not too stressful I hope. One of my favorite things about the Christmas season is "light." I love the warm glow of holiday lights everywhere!  It gets dark so early up here, so it seems like Christmas lights come on  earlier in the day.  Our lights come on about 4pm.  I love this time because the sky still  has a bit of color to add to the "magic."  I light candles, make a cup of hot cocoa,  and simply enjoy the peacefulness of the season  by the warmth of the fireplace. I had fun this year with "this old house" we're living in. We decided to put our tree up in the front room which is what we call  our "piano room." (since my piano takes up most of the room) :-) I found some ribbon with music notes on it to add to the theme of the room,  and since the wall color is sort of a "vin...

Getting Ready For The Holidays!

Image
Hi Friends!  Wow, time has gotten away from me once again!  If you are here, reading this, than I want to say  thank you for not giving up on me! :-)  I'm here today, to share with you some things I've been  working on for the holidays.  I found this FREE PATTERN  online to crochet these cute  little pinecones. I think they will make a fun addition to my Christmas gift wrapping, don't you?  Then, I picked up the magazine you see below that has the pattern  for making these Christmas ornament cozies.  I had fun standing out in the rain to get this shot today.  :-) …and of course,  once a girl gets started crocheting covers for stones, she  never stops.   I made this yellow one for my friend, Stella. This is my friend, Stella and her daughter Ginger. I ask Stella if I could post this photo of the two of them. ...

Merry Christmas from Seattle!!

Lots of baking,  sharing,  crocheting holiday "get-togethers," and  simply enjoying our first Christmas in our new city! (There's even talk of snow flurries on Christmas Day!) Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!  Blessings, Becca

Simple Holiday Spirit

Image
Hello dear friends!  Are you feeling the holiday spirit this year? I'm feeling like a kid again seeing new things and  experiencing this time of year in my new home. Sometimes, it's all the lights I see that adorn the trees wherever I go. Sometimes, it's the misty air on my face or the Christmas music I hear when I'm out shopping and running errands.  Sometimes, it's just the light that catches the raindrops and makes  the branches sparkle and glisten. Today, I'm enjoying a cup of tea from a friend,  and...  I almost got out the tripod today too for the raindrop shots  when I realized, the tripod is in the closet where  Russell said, "No Peeking!" Oh well...I think they'll be more rainy days for the tripod shots.  So my friends, I'm wondering... what simple things put you in the holiday spirit?  Becca

Seeing Stars

Image
Handmade clay ornaments!  I first saw these on Pinterest...are you still a  "Pinterest Junkie" like I am?   So many great ideas there!  I also want to give credit to Jen over at  Muddy Boot Dreams Jen made some beautiful ornaments too and shares the link to the  Pinterest site with the recipe to make these. This was so much fun, I just had to share!  I felt like a kid again, making these Christmas ornaments. My star shape cookie cutter was the same one I used  years ago, to make sugar cookies with my mom.  For me, I like the simple white with natural twine. If you want color, you could try painting them!  Here's a shot of my ornaments on a doily  I crocheted with my favorite linen yarn.  (the same yarn I used for the star garland  I made that you can see  HERE) "This is not your grandma's doily"  :-) (Althou...

A Time to Reflect

Image
Hello friends!  It's not even December, but I'm always so excited right after  Thanksgiving to  decorate for Christmas!    Have you started your holiday decorating and shopping yet?  Last year was Lucy's first Christmas, and most of the time we'd  find her, at the top of our 9ft Christmas tree!  This year, she's still fascinated with the tree. Although, she's simply taken to just biting at the branches and playing underneath the tree skirt.  Silly kitty. For me, I just love the Christmas music, baking,  and seeing the beautiful reflections from  all of the lights. Speaking of reflections... I celebrated my Birthday yesterday! I had Dim Sum in Seattle with a couple of friends then shopping at Pike's Market in the rain.   At the end of the day, I was quietly reflecting on my life a year ago,  and how I was anxious and ner...

Christmas Happenings

Image
Just thought I'd introduce you to my sister's new puppy, Ellie May.   Isn't she cute?  My brother in law captured this perfect photo of her under their Christmas tree. I've had fun making a couple of wine bags this year and hand appliqueing a design and sewing some Christmas buttons and bells on them.  Sorry I don't have a photo of the finished product, I was so busy, I stuck the wine in the bag and took off for the party!  Cheers!  Every year my co-worker, Colene makes these yummy white-chocolate covered pretzels and gives them out to everyone at work.  They are so good, I won't even eat the store bought ones anymore!  We're on our way to pick up my MIL at the airport.  Our Christmas is usually pretty quiet.  It will be just the 3 of us and lots of eating, drinking, playing games, making candy & cookies, reading & relaxing and enjoying each other's company.   I'll be checking in though from time to time and seeing what al...

On a warm December day...

Fetzer wanted me to show you our Christmas tree.  I've had a hard time getting into the Christmas spirit this year.  The fact that our temperatures are almost reaching 70 degrees might have something to do with it. At least it cools off to the 40's at night, and we can have the fire on, but this is what I wore today.  My MIL will be here in a couple of weeks to spend Christmas with us.   We enjoy having her with us, but I need to get my behind in gear and get my craft room guest room decorated and ready for her.  I do hope the nice weather holds up for her.  She lives in Bend, Oregon and it is very cold and snowy up there this time of year.   This Friday night I'm going to get all "dolled" up and go to a Holiday Party with my hubby.  The party will be at one of the hotels on the Las Vegas Strip.  The weather is supposed to still be pretty mild, so at least I won't freeze in my party dress!  I have to admit that even though...
