The Autumn Hydrangea



The Hydrangea is probably my most favorite flower. 

I can't grow these in our dry, desert soil so whenever I am traveling and see them I love to photograph them. 



As temperatures drop in Seattle, Washington and the summer weather starts turning to fall, 
the hydrangea starts to show its colors of Autumn.


I can't resist a few macros to see the detail in the petals.


I love how the brown mixes with the blue, 


and how the color of the hydrangea changes with the type of soil it's in. 


Now, even as Autumn is upon us, the hydrangea continues to show it's beauty of the season.



It's cloudy, rainy and cool here in Las Vegas today.
A good day to stay home in your pajamas. :-)

When my hydrangeas get that fall look, I cut a few and dry them so we can enjoy them all winter. Except this year, none of them bloomed because we had such an icky winter last year and died back. (Ours bloom on the previous year's growth.):(

I love Hydrangeas too. I can grow them okay, but I think it gets a little too cold in the winter and I have them planted in an area that is a little too wet. I love your pictures.

Hydrangeas are my very favorite flower! I have always grown them but haven't planted any here in Florida yet. I love the shades of blue and purple...sometimes even pink and red! ♥

I went through your blog and I love it! I am listening to the same music and like all what you do. I was doing pastel, like to draw birds, flowers... I wish i could live closer so you can teach me some of your art! I would be very glad if you couls send me the link for the crochet flowers. I am passionate by crochet at the moment and found how to do a flower yesterday and made a brooch with it. I bought many books about crocheted flowers and it is very relaxing for me. It's always good to find another person who is fond of Hydrangeas. Your shots are lovely, and so detailed.

I just managed to get out there and cut all the beautiful blooms off before the gardeners did. They have so little regard for beauty....

Now my potting bench is covered in turquoise and lime blossoms. Because this being the West Coast, we grow em big. All that rain has to have some good returns.

To me those faded blooms are even more beautiful than when they are fresh. I have some blues and Annabelle's and when they start to fade the transparent petals are like little histories. Thanks for sharing your images with us. xox Corrine

oh my, the hydrangea IS my favorite flower. over here, we can buy a pot with some blooms but that's it. it won't bloom again. i was recently in Spain and i saw a whole garden filled with them! like you, i took a lot of photos too!

Def my favorite flower! I just cant get enough of it. My daughter chose it as the flower to use in her wedding and it was over the top. I just purchased a new camera and cant wait for mine to bloom. Hopefully I will know how to use my camera by then! Great photos and happy PPF!

Watercolor on Tea Bags

Hello Friends!  Hope you are enjoying your weekend, especially  if this is a long weekend for you!  It seems like I've been drinking a lot of tea lately, so I  thought it was time to get out my tea bags  and get creative!  This is a mixed-media piece on watercolor paper. First, I tore pieces of the tea bags and glued them to the  watercolor paper to start my background. This is another piece I started just today where I decided to use a rubber stamp before applying the tea bags for added interest.  I love the color and texture the tea bags create.  After the background was dry, I started to sketch out my design.   The dragonfly is a rubber stamp. The Art of A Rain Chain

"Art"   is probably not the first word that comes to mind for most people when it rains.  If you have ever seen a  Rain Chain   then maybe you'll understand why I think of it this way.  copper, metal, patina, design, texture, beauty... peaceful,  mesmerizing... It's a Crochet Thing….

Hi friends!   Well, I said I'd be back with some crochet stuff I've been working on,  I just didn't think it would take me so long.  So, I found this cute coaster pattern on line that uses "jute"  and yarn. They were easy to make, and the yarn adds so much to them,  don't you think?   Look at the back, I think even the back looks interesting!  Click  HERE  for the link if you want to make these.  I've been working on this afghan for a while now.  I love it because the squares have been pretty  easy to make even while watching TV.  The colors remind me of the blue hydrangeas I love so much!  Finally, I've been going nuts about adding crocheted edgings on things.  I made a couple of tea towels for gifts, and I'm still  working on more of these.  Don't you just love ticking fabric?  Well, there ya ha...
