A Beautiful Spring Day

Image
Hello friends, how is springtime in your part of the world?  Today is my friend, Priscilla's Birthday, so I thought  it would be a good time to show you this  beautiful rhododendron she has in her front garden. Beautiful buds burst into soft, pale color.  "Rhodies" come in so many pretty colors. I love this soft peachy pink one that Priscilla has.  Yesterday, it was 70 degrees here in Seattle!  I took Priscilla to  one of our favorite nurseries to have lunch in their Garden Cafe (outdoor table of course)  and to shop for plants.  Oh, and there was a couple of mimosas involved too.  :-)  Happy Birthday Priscilla!  I'm so happy to have you as my neighbor and dear friend.  Becca

Don't Put All Your Eggs In One Basket...

Image
...or at least in this case, maybe it's ok.  I'm not even sure when Easter is this year, April 5th right?  All I know is that the weather has been telling me it's just around the  corner, and if I want to crochet some egg covers I'd better get busy!   I picked up this vintage wire egg basket years ago and the dealer gave me the  plastic eggs that she had displayed in it.   I remember thinking that I'd decoupage the eggs with colorful paper.  (still like that idea...hum, now I need more plastic eggs)  But, for now I decided to crochet covers, since I  love crochet so much!  You DO know that about me don't you? :-)  I pulled out all of my thread stash and decided on  "natural" colors and threads; cotton and my favorite, linen.  It was a great way to use up thread I already had, and with the  natural color selection I think I can get away with l...

May Happenings and some Vintage Crochet

Image
Hi friends!   Wow!  Here we are into May already.  I still can't keep up  with everything I want to do!  I did manage to cut a few of the neighbor's lilacs again this spring  to enjoy indoors.  Oh the fragrance!  Still working on my stash of linen yarn…I love this stuff for projects!  I'm also excited to tell you, a couple of my embroidery pieces were published in  this issue of Better Homes & Gardens  Make it Yourself magazine!  They really did a nice layout of my pieces!  Lots of other fun things in this issue if you happen to see it and want to  check it out.  I even saw this magazine at our local grocery store as  well as the big booksellers.  Another little project I've been trying to prefect is this little linen and burlap  lavender sachet.  I'm loving the look of the linen with the burlap...

Springtime and the Crochet Saga Continues

Image
Hi friends!   Can you believe April is upon us already?  We've had an abundant amount of rain.  The trees and flowers love the rain as much as I do, and everything is so green.  I love this early blooming Rhododendron in our garden that we get to  see from our little kitchen.   This is a new doily I've been working on with some thread I already had in my stash.  With only a couple more rows to go,  I realized I needed a little more thread.  So, when I went online to order it, I discovered this color is no longer available.    Surprisingly enough, I couldn't even find it on Etsy or Ebay. Oh well…I really didn't have any plans for it, but here's the thing... I was kind of digging how this color looks with denim so I think I'll pull it all out and just use the thread for smaller projects or even crochet appliqué on  a denim skirt.   Wha...

Happy Spring!

Image
Happy spring everyone!  How are you my friends?  Don't you just love seeing flowers appear and have you noticed how pretty and happy the birds sound now?  This month has been very, very rainy and I have enjoyed every minute of it!  I've been doing lots of crocheting, reading and drinking tea on the rainy days.  I know lots of people hate the rain, but it's why things are so green here!  I love to walk in the garden just after the rain. (or sometimes even "in" the rain)  The bottles I have out there now are so colorful. This year I'm working on putting together a bottle tree for our  garden, have you seen them before?  So many daffodils popping up and next  will be the tulips.  Can you see them below the daffodils starting to  come up?  I know now that moss is really not a good thing to have, but I do so love ...

Just outside my window...

Image
Outside my window I can hear birds singing. Just outside my window I see snowflakes.  Yes, snowflakes! Really?  I asked myself. I put my order in for snowflakes for December 22nd,  not March 22nd! Oh well, no worries because right now, just outside my window,  I see sunshine.  Strange.  I guess that's what people mean when they say if you don't like  the weather here in Seattle, just wait a few minutes and it  will change.   These lovely daffodils are popping up in my garden and in everyone else's garden too...a sure sign of spring!  **** We're going to just lay low this weekend.  I've been worried sick about my little "Fetzer Boy" kitty.  Yesterday, we took him to the vet for some blood work and X-rays.   **** Thank you for being here friends. Springtime Bird Cage

Image
Hi Friends!  I took a little bit of time this afternoon to take some pictures  of my iron birdcage that's on our deck  just outside of my art room.  Last summer I simply "guessed" at what kind of plant to buy for  a container I wanted to put into my birdcage.  I had visions of a pretty vine running throughout the cage.   The plant I picked out is a "Vinca"  which is actually a ground cover.  I really enjoyed it last summer with it's simple purple flowers and little  vines I started to train through the cage.  Well, since I had never really "lived" trough a winter here with all the  rain and chill, I just figured that it wouldn't survive, and  come this spring I would be  re-planting another vine for the birdcage. Then, one day, I looked out and happened to notice lots of little purple flowers... lots of t...
