Birds and the Bees

Image
One of my favorite springtime activities is watching all the little Chickadees  that frequent our bird feeder.   So inspired by all the little Chickadees here, I made this cute little  felt version.  I was as happy as the Chickadees when I discovered that the little Lilac  tree I've had in a container on the deck for 4 years started blooming this spring!   Of course, they are too small to cut and I am sure the whole  plant could use some TLC since it just wintered over as is,  but this little Lilac tree has given me hope that wherever it  might end up this summer will continue to thrive and bloom in the future.  For those of you that follow me on  Instagram you might have seen that I am working on a new pattern called  The Hotel of Bees Shawl. The pattern consists of sections that resemble honeycomb, and little  bees like in the photo ...

Hello March

Image
The calendar says it's March, but the rain and the  chill in the air reminds me it's not  quite Spring which gives me some time to work on  a few more wearables for those future warmer days! Thoughts of spring have inspired me to work with yarns and  threads of linen and cotton. (Although, the cozy wools still feel more comfy to me right now. ) This shawl is the Queen Anne Shawl and was a lovely pattern  to work up, especially with linen.  You can find the pattern  HERE I enjoyed it so much I'm thinking of crocheting another one in a  different color.  ...and just a sneak peek of another Springtime shawl I'm working on that's  crocheted with cotton.   I've really been enjoying making shawls for those beautiful spring like days with sun yet you still  need a little "touch of Cozy" in the shade. :-)  Speaking of cozy...

January...

Image
...cold, crisp gray days,  long, dark evenings made cozy with coffee and wool.  I love the look of Winter, when nature is at peace.  Creating and crocheting all things cozy.  Have you seen the popular "Messy Bun Beanie?"  I've enjoyed wearing and making these this winter.  Inspired by some of the colors in nature for my  scarves and hats.   All you need is love,  and a little cozy wool. :-)  How are you spending those cold, crisp gray days of January?  Becca

Making a Fresh Start

Image
Greetings!  I've missed it here!  PatinaMoon,  my little relaxing place to share and be inspired by other makers, artists,  and friends alike. I've become a bit more obsessed with crochet over the past year and so I've decided to open  an  Etsy Shop One of things I love best about having an online shop is photographing the items I make.  My creative process continues to center around photography and finding new and fun ways to showcase the items I make. My shop is a little sparse right now after the holiday orders, but I hope you'll stay tuned as I work on some additional items that I think you will enjoy!  So,  today I am making a Fresh Start here on my blog and hope you'll join me as I share my new creative endeavors!  Becca

Happy May Day!

Image
Hi friends,  I made some simple little May Day baskets  to share today.  It's always good when you can use supplies you already have  to create some happiness.  I also wanted to share some crochet stuff with you.  This is a scarf/shawl I just finished. It's worked with two strands of size 10 bamboo thread.  The thread is very soft, and wasn't really all that difficult to work with.  So, now that I still have "how to work" the pattern in my head,  and remembering my mistakes, I'm  thinking of trying it again only in a different color.  Found these cute little sun and moon motifs in a  book I have.  You know I just had to crochet some, especially  the moon!  I'm thinking they might look good on my denim  jacket or maybe an old pair of jeans.  Remember wearing those iron-on  patches on your jeans when you were younger?...

A Few of my Favorite Things

Image
Oh my, have you seen a copy of  Bella Grace  yet?  I've been hearing so much about it from all of you lovelies out there,  for so long now, that I'm probably one of the last to talk about it!    I did start with the last winter issue, so cozy and heartwarming, and now  this spring issue is just so lovely!  I guess I'm telling you this now, because today was one of  those days where I just felt blah and all I wanted to do was  surround myself with some of my favorite things.  So, it was a great day to just sit with my coffee  and get lost in pages and pages of inspiring stories and images!   Rain Drops on Roses?  No, just lavender, lots of lavender!    Looking through the photographs I took while visiting the lavender farms  in Sequim last year makes me  eager for warmer days and catching whiffs of lavender while strolling  ...

Don't Put All Your Eggs In One Basket...

Image
...or at least in this case, maybe it's ok.  I'm not even sure when Easter is this year, April 5th right?  All I know is that the weather has been telling me it's just around the  corner, and if I want to crochet some egg covers I'd better get busy!   I picked up this vintage wire egg basket years ago and the dealer gave me the  plastic eggs that she had displayed in it.   I remember thinking that I'd decoupage the eggs with colorful paper.  (still like that idea...hum, now I need more plastic eggs)  But, for now I decided to crochet covers, since I  love crochet so much!  You DO know that about me don't you? :-)  I pulled out all of my thread stash and decided on  "natural" colors and threads; cotton and my favorite, linen.  It was a great way to use up thread I already had, and with the  natural color selection I think I can get away with l...

Just Some Green...

Image
Hello friends,  I stepped out into the misty rain the other day to shoot some things  around our deck area, looking for color.   This time of year, the rainy season, there doesn't seem to be  that much color around..just mostly green.  I am quite happy with green though... so much more than the brown desert of my past. :-) In fact, I do tend to lean toward the neutral tones just like this beautiful taupe color of the gloves that my friend  Judy  knitted for me.  Aren't they beautiful?  So soft too.  Perfect for shooting in the light rain. :-)  Made this crocheted wrap bracelet for my sis-n-law that lives in Bend, Oregon.  The hardest part is stringing all the beads on!   Lots of great tutorials on YouTube.  Happy weekend!  Becca
