Living Green

Living Green, what does that mean to you? Is your first thought,  protecting our environment, reducing waste, funny looking light bulbs?
All important things pertaining to our earth, but today I was thinking of something different, a more personal meaning.  While doing laundry, cleaning, and checking my email, I got side tracked by some photographs I took during a visit to one of my most favorite places...
Oregon.

You see, I grew up in the Nevada desert, of Las Vegas.  While I have a lot to be thankful for here, the older I get, the more "green" I want to see.

It's not that the desert can't be beautiful, we have some amazing sunsets, and I'm always trying to appreciate the beauty here, at home, like this...

But, this is what I see on my drive to work...

So I guess it's more about the need for change.
The desert is where I grew up, but as I get older, the city gets bigger, the summer get hotter, and so a little more green  speaks to me!
Someday I hope we'll be "living green" somewhere in the Pacific Northwest.

I love how these photos took me "away" today, so I wanted to share them with you.  Most of these photos were taken on my Aunt and Uncle's property in Oregon...a most relaxing place to visit.

So, sit back, relax and enjoy my journey to a favorite place.
This is what "living green" means to me.

Thank you for taking this trip with me.

Hope you're enjoying the holiday weekend!

Antique jars, a project and some nature

It's a beautiful day today, and I have the day off so I wanted to share some photographs with you.
This is an antique ink well.

A small cold cream jar.  It was this lid that sold me.  Look at all of the wonderful rusted colors!
I haven't decided what to "use" these 2 items for, but I look forward to displaying them somewhere in my home.

I covered a lumbar pillow in burlap.  I like how it turned out, but wanted to embellish it with something, maybe some lace?  I use this pillow on my chair in the craft room, so I don't want to get too crazy with the embellishments, but felt it needed something else.  What do you think?

Finally, I thought I'd share a couple of photographs taken by my brother-in-law at their home in Arizona.

This is a bloom from a Cholla Cactus in their yard.

Baby golden finches in the nest in an oak tree also at their home.

I'm feeling much better and wanted to say thank you for all your well wishes.
It's going to be a busy rest of the week for me, but I hope to enjoy a relaxing 3 day holiday coming up and I'll be sharing more with you then.

Some creativity and a little rest

Hi all, thank you for stopping by!
***
This weekend I was hoping to accomplish a bit more creativeness than I did, but today I'm feeling a bit under the weather, however...
...I will share with you what I did accomplish.

A friend of mine gave me her mirrored compact that was just one of those "cheap-y" kind you get at the dollar store.  It had a silver type coating on the outside that was starting to chip off, so she thought I could come up with something to spruce it up a bit so this is what I did for her.

This is the other side, and this image is from the Graphics Fairy.
I get a lot of my images  there, however,  I'm sorry I don't  remember where the image of the vintage lady is from.

Then, I did a bit of sanding and painting some old frames I had.

I printed out some nautical photographs that I've taken over the years, and put them into the frames.
I was pleased with how they turned out, and it didn't cost a dime, so what do you think?

So, today I think I'll just lounge around and rest with the kitties in hopes of feeling more energetic tomorrow.

Hope you're enjoying a beautiful weekend!

The Power of Music

What is it about a song that makes us remember the past?

You've heard the saying "music is the universal language" right?

I've spent some time  today listening to different "styles" of music and I was taken "back in time" to some wonderful feelings and special memories.
I'm not saying that music is a cure all, but have you ever had a bad day and then heard a song that boosted your spirits?

I like some hawaiian music, it  brings back memories of my wedding on the beach.  A Chopin piece inspires me to sit down and play my piano.  Some jazz artists and songs make me want to sing.  I'm a big fan of Snoopy and the Peanuts Gang, so listening to Vince Guaraldi music makes me happy!
If I'm ever in LA,  I love to drive down Sunset Blvd,  at sunset,  while listening to Steely Dan.
Sometimes when I'm in my craft room sewing or collaging I just want to "hear" the ocean or rain.

I'm writing this post because a few of you have sent me nice comments about my "blog music." Some of you might not  like music, while reading blogs,  because you find it distracting, but luckily, we have a mute button on our computers if that is the case.

Music is a BIG part of my life, so  I love to share it with others.
I think music fits in there with "inspiration" and "creativity" and isn't that why most of us love to blog?

What are some styles of music that inspires you? What songs remind you of a special memory?
If you've had a stressful day, maybe you can take a few minutes to sit and listen to some music and hopefully the power of music will relax your soul.

Take care...until the weekend...

Acoustic Medley in the Garden

Dear blogging friends, hope everyone has had a nice weekend and was able to enjoy some beautiful weather where you live!
I was so happy that the wind finally subsided for the weekend so I could get outdoors and take some photographs.  Here are a few photographs in my courtyard.

I've had these lights up in the courtyard forever, and occasionally a strand will go out, so when I purchase a new strand I just take the "balls" from the old strand and throw them into this old terra cotta pot and now I really like the look of the rusted decorations!

Finally, I did some rearranging in my craft room today.  The hubby put up a new shelf for me and I spent some time styling some of my favorite things and photographs.

So what did you do this weekend?  I need to spend the next few days getting caught up on all of your blogs and happenings!
As always...thank you so much for visiting!
See you soon,
Becca
