Decorating for Autumn

Image
Hi Friends!  Have you started decorating for Autumn yet?  This year, I just had to try using one of my crocheted doilies to decorate  a pumpkin.  I'm very happy with how this one turned out.  I applied the doily simply using a glue stick around the edges because  this pumpkin is real and won't last forever, so I should be able to salvage the  crochet piece to use with something else later.  Do you guys know this plant below?  Chinese Lantern. I never heard of these until I moved to Seattle, and now I look  forward to them every fall.   So much fun to decorate with!  There's so many unusual pumpkins out there, and I  loved these tiny orange ones.  Didn't take any time at all to  crochet a decoration for this baby.  I thought this was a very interesting one too and ties in the light  pumpkins with the orange on...

Days of Sun

Image
Happy Friday everyone!  Just thought I'd take a few moments to pop in and share  some sunny photos with you.  Has it been sunny where you are?  We're still getting our rainy days, but boy when that sun comes out,  it feels so good!  I try to get my dose of vitamin D by hanging out on our top deck with my  crochet or a good book for a while.  It's also been fun to walk down to the local bakery for a loaf of   fresh sourdough!  Walking back home, uphill makes me feel  less guilty about eating a couple of pieces.  When the days are clear, we get a tiny peek of the snow capped Olympic Peninsula.  I've planted a couple of container plants on the deck that are sun loving,  and should do well up there this summer when we don't get much rain.  This one is actually a berry.  Not sure if I will actually see berries on it this summ...

Season of Light

Image
Hi Friends!  How's your holiday season going?  Not too stressful I hope. One of my favorite things about the Christmas season is "light." I love the warm glow of holiday lights everywhere!  It gets dark so early up here, so it seems like Christmas lights come on  earlier in the day.  Our lights come on about 4pm.  I love this time because the sky still  has a bit of color to add to the "magic."  I light candles, make a cup of hot cocoa,  and simply enjoy the peacefulness of the season  by the warmth of the fireplace. I had fun this year with "this old house" we're living in. We decided to put our tree up in the front room which is what we call  our "piano room." (since my piano takes up most of the room) :-) I found some ribbon with music notes on it to add to the theme of the room,  and since the wall color is sort of a "vin...

Getting Ready For The Holidays!

Image
Hi Friends!  Wow, time has gotten away from me once again!  If you are here, reading this, than I want to say  thank you for not giving up on me! :-)  I'm here today, to share with you some things I've been  working on for the holidays.  I found this FREE PATTERN  online to crochet these cute  little pinecones. I think they will make a fun addition to my Christmas gift wrapping, don't you?  Then, I picked up the magazine you see below that has the pattern  for making these Christmas ornament cozies.  I had fun standing out in the rain to get this shot today.  :-) …and of course,  once a girl gets started crocheting covers for stones, she  never stops.   I made this yellow one for my friend, Stella. This is my friend, Stella and her daughter Ginger. I ask Stella if I could post this photo of the two of them. ...

October Happenings

Image
October. My favorite month.  Even when I lived in the Nevada desert I loved October.  It's when things started to cool down from the hot summers.  Now, even more than ever,  I love this season/month!  This year, I made an autumn wreath for our front door.  I am REALLY excited about decorating for fall.  Even two of our cats fit into the colors of fall.  There's been a lot of squirrel watching lately,  ...and bird watching,  when it's not nap time. ...and burning beeswax candles and incense  when it's damp and rainy outside.  Even though today was beautiful and sunny, you can just feel it in the air  that the colder, rainy weather is just around the corner.  I hear that November is the wettest month around these parts.  So, until then, I shall soak up the sun and play in the dirt  when I have t...

Coffee, Tea, or Me?

Image
You know you're living in Seattle  when you have your own  Coffee Bar at your house.  :-) When you live in an old house with a small and  very outdated kitchen,  you kind of have to get creative with the space you do have!  This space kind of evolved over time...I just keep changing  and adding to it. We both love coffee, and I'm a big tea drinker as well.  Oh be still my heart when I found this vintage coffee grinder at an  antique shop here in the area.  Pretty different from this, but oh so quick and easy!  Who'd a thought I'd have a special place to display this  collage I made a while back.  Not to mention the glass table I got in Las Vegas years ago,  and it sat in our garage because I didn't have a place for it!  How about you?  Do you like to create special nooks where you live? Hope yo...

A Garden Doily

Image
Time for another doily fix!  Yes, I finally finished this lavender doily that I started a while back.  This one will be a gift for a friend that just  celebrated her 50th Birthday. We've been friends for 40 years! This pattern is from Book 5 of  A Year of Doilies. It was the first time I've ever worked the  "popcorn" stitch with thread.  I love the texture this stitch creates. In this piece it makes me think of grapes or lilacs.  Then, while I was out in the garden one day, I saw this!  An artichoke plant. I've really never seen anything like it, have you?  I mean, is this the same artichoke that we buy at the store and eat?  I didn't realize they were so pretty. This bee was SO busy, he wouldn't sit still for me to get a  shot of him.  Look at all the pollen on him!  So, tell me what you know about this pla...
