The Beauty I'm Seeing Here

Sending a big thank you out to everyone for your comforting words during this difficult time. 
 Russell and I appreciate your kindness. 

It's so sad that my first trip to Florida had to be under these circumstances.  But,  I still managed to find a bit of comfort with my camera and surroundings.

Here is a peek at some of the beauty I've been seeing around this place while spending time with my family.







Temperatures in the 70's with cool breezes.

My new friend...I think he has "cute toes," don't you? :-)
(I've never seen a frog in Las Vegas, so I guess I'm easily amused)


...falling asleep to an evening rain shower last night... 



These little guys are everywhere...I think they're cute too. 
I'm not sure of their correct name...I just like to call them "garden geckos." 









  
Love the old Florida style home with the louvre type windows.


I think it's so healing for the heart and soul to be able to find beauty even in the sad times.



It'll be good to get home on Thursday, although I'm not looking forward to the long flight home.
I'm a bit of a nervous flyer, so I'll be hoping for a smooth one. :-)

Isn't is comforting how beauty lifts the heart in times of sadness? I hope this heart-healing time in FL has been good for your, Russell and your family, Becca. And wishing you a safe journey home. I am so very sorry to hear about your loss. I hope by the time your read this that you will have had a safe trip home. I think that at a time of grief we see things around us with a greater depth and intensity - I find that very evident in your photos. They're very intense and beautiful.
I hope you don't find this question insentive, but I have an interest in astrology from the standpoint of facial features and wondered if your father in law was a pisces? I'm asking from seeing his amazing self portrait. What a kind face.

Watercolor on Tea Bags

Hello Friends!  Hope you are enjoying your weekend, especially  if this is a long weekend for you!  It seems like I've been drinking a lot of tea lately, so I  thought it was time to get out my tea bags  and get creative!  This is a mixed-media piece on watercolor paper. First, I tore pieces of the tea bags and glued them to the  watercolor paper to start my background. This is another piece I started just today where I decided to use a rubber stamp before applying the tea bags for added interest.  I love the color and texture the tea bags create.  After the background was dry, I started to sketch out my design.   The dragonfly is a rubber stamp. Finally, a little simple hand stitching on linen for added texture. The light was so beautiful and inviting on my desk today. Oh, and don't you just love my new pencil box I got at the  second-hand store for 97 cents?

The Art of A Rain Chain

"Art"   is probably not the first word that comes to mind for most people when it rains.  If you have ever seen a  Rain Chain   then maybe you'll understand why I think of it this way.  copper, metal, patina, design, texture, beauty... peaceful,  mesmerizing... If you've read my blog for some time, you might remember, this "desert girl" is fascinated with  rain chains. :-) I'm still traveling...Seattle...it's raining... Creating Art with Tea Bags

As summer approaches and the sunshine is plentiful here in the  desert southwest, I drink a lot of this... Making sun tea here only takes a short time. I've been using 6 regular size tea bags for the above container. (I like a pretty strong flavor)  You can add sugar or not, I enjoy it with a little mint leaves & lemon and  sometimes an added sweetener.  I started having so many tea bags and I've seen my friend Kimmie   create art with them, so I thought I'd give it a try!  I just let the bags completely dry,  remove the tag & staple then open them up carefully and empty the tea. Open the bags at the seam line and this is what you have,  beautifully tea stained papers for collage, sewing, etc.  Here, I used old dictionary book paper to create my flower design on water color paper.  I painted the flowers with watercolors.  Collaged torn tea bags onto the background, then stitched around  each flower for dimension.  This book mark I made using water
