Some Crafty Goodness

Hi all!
Here is a bit of creativity that I've been up to.

Remember the Christy Tomlinson She Art Workshop that I enjoyed so much?

Well, I found a book that had a little "different" type of girl, so I though I'd give it a try, because it's tests my drawing skills a bit.

Here you learn to practice drawing your girl on a grid and giving her some "attitude" with the way you draw her.
I still need lots of practice with this, but it was really fun!

After you draw the grid and sketch your girl, you copy it on to tracing paper so then you can position your tracing paper design over book paper, pattern paper, or designer papers of your choice and then cut it out.
Creating a background is your choice.
I used the sponge look here and the one above I just tore strips of different papers and collaged them to the canvas.

This one is a smaller canvas that I made for a friend.
She loves Happy Hour!

I'm also taking a class at our local JoAnn's.
It's a Tatting class.
Have you seen this art before?
I know it's been around for years, but I was never around anyone that did this, so I thought it might be fun to learn.
This book is helpful and comes with a DVD, but I found that the one on one in the classroom is a better way for me to learn.

It's only 2 classes, but at least it's given me a start.
There are also lots of videos on YouTube that's helpful once you get the basics down.

So, here you go, I'm talking basics, but I was proud at what I've learned so far, so maybe with a little practice I can do something that's on the cover of that book. LOL!

Hope your week is going well.
I'm having a better week.

Sometimes the stressful part is that part leading up to a decision...
once you decide what's best and make that decision it's easier to move forward don't you think?
I'm moving forward now.  All is well.

See you soon,

Becca

Becca, I love the girl collages...they really do have attitude! And the colors you are choosing for your tatting are so pretty! Looking forward to seeing what you create!
I have a friend who makes and sells those girls at a local shop. I think yours are better than hers. These really ROCK!

My great aunt did tatting. She used a shuttle. I have her shuttle, but I was never able to sit long enough to learn anything about it, although she did teach me to crochet and knit during a two week vacation one year.

I love my new Julie Nutting book--they're kind of like she art girls all grown up :) Love your fun ones!
Tatting is a forgotten art and I'm glad it's being re-discovered. I crocheted thread doiles years ago, and I know how much work is involved in this delicate art making. Your on your way--wonderful results!

The girl collage is AWESOME.. and, yes... I know what tatting is. My grandmother used tat around the edge of handkerchiefs. Beautiful artwork, isn't it? Have fun with it.

I love tatting, it is so delicate and detailed. I use little bits of it in my necklaces. It is great that you are learning a "lost" art. Glad you have made a decision and that you are moving on, I hope things are working out for you. I know how hard it can be. Have a good rest of your week. Lorrie

Becca how fun - I saw that book on Amazon recently and wondered about purchasing it. I have a background in fashion design and really appreciate your dainty creations from the standpoint of a fun fashion illustration - love them! Just joined the "She had 3 hearts" workshop with Christy and I so much look forward to getting into it.

I love your collage Becca, and the tatting is amazing. This is something I have always wanted to learn to do. I tried it once just on my own, and it was a bit of a disaster to say the least. You are inspiring me to give it another shot! :-)

And your tatting looks pretty darn good too! I love how you are always trying out new things; it's so interesting to come here and see what you've got yourself into next.
I'm also glad to hear you are feeling better. Making big decisions and changes is never easy, and you are very brave to take them on!

Oh, this is such fun, Becca! I love this way of drawing... must give this a try, as I'm liking that attitude! ;o) You've made these girls so pretty. I'll take that Happy Hour dress, actually... LOL! Loved seeing the process you took with this. I like when you give us a behind-the-scenes. Tatting--that is very exciting, and those are beautiful threads you're using. I tried tatting a long time ago, maybe 15 years ago. This was before the Internet boom made getting certain craft supplies easier to come by, so I ended up stopping it as I couldn't get hold of supplies easily enough. I will be eager to see what you make. Thank you so much for your sweet visit to my place today, and so much sharing & heart in your comment. :o) I'm hoping very much your gentle moves forward bring you closer to dreams come true. Happy Weekend ((HUGS))

I'm going backwards, playing catch up. Congrats on the Tatting Class, using the bigger thread may help me have tried many times, but always with the tiny thread. These designs are great. I LOVE your Girl Collages..so fun and a unique design. Great post. Have fun
