Hello from Cali

Image
Just wanted to send a quick hello from La Jolla, California. Part business, part pleasure trip.  It was about a  5 hour drive from our home in Las Vegas.  It's always nice to get away especially if it involves the ocean isn't it?  Tomorrow, I'll probably find a Starbucks, have some coffee or tea, and do a little blog hopping.  I feel like I haven't been around much lately, so I hope to get caught up with all of you!  The weather here in California is nice, but kind of chilly at night.  It's supposed to be 69 degrees F tomorrow, so I'm hoping to spend some time outside with my camera.  Chat with you soon!  Becca

Friends on Canvas

Image
Hi friends!  How was your weekend? I spent part of my weekend getting ready for an on-line art class I'm taking beginning Monday. It's called the "She Art Workshop" by  Christy Tomlinson I had so much fun just getting out all of my supplies for the workshop...paints, watercolor crayons, gel medium, papers, stencils, and other ephemera, that I couldn't wait to play!   Here, I used an old photo of my mother (on the right) with one of her friends from school. I can't wait to see the techniques that Christy  is going to show us. Check out the link above for more information.  Working with canvas and paints is something I've always wanted to do more of.  I'm going to be out of town for a few days during the workshop though, so I'll probably be the student that's behind trying to play catch up!  Hope all is well with you...  Becca

Windy and Cooler with a Chance of Rain

Image
Along with Springtime in the desert comes those cooler,  very windy days that make you want to wrap up in a blanket, read a book and drink hot tea.  This weekend is one of those times.  My biggest concern is that my container of bearded iris won't survive the strong winds. I've tied them up with a bit of twine to help hold them steady so they won't snap in the gusts of wind.  So far, so good... this is my first bloom this year. It's a bit challenging to take macro shots in the wind, but here a few I thought you might enjoy.  I didn't realize that iris's had such a sparkle to them until I started shooting with a macro lens.  Hope it's beautiful springtime weather where you are.  Have a lovely weekend,  Becca

Digital Art, Decorated Journals & Lunch Sacks

Image
This past weekend, I played in my art room covering some little Moleskin journals,  for gifts. I also decorated paper lunch sacks to place each of the journals inside.  The best part was I was able to use supplies and scraps I already had. Here's another digital collage I created using a couple of my photographs, as well as a bird image.  The background texture  is from Shadowhouse Creations. Sunshine on a Cloudy Day These little journals were fun and easy to make. I love combining fabric and paper. I love the idea of decorating lunch sacks to use as gift wrap. The latest issue of Somerset Life  has an article about this fun project.  Add a little stitching and some vintage lace or any other embellishment of your choice. I also took some pressed lavender I had and enclosed it in wax paper and stitched around it.  So, there you have it, some of my creative fun this past weekend.   Now, it's back to work and sadly it seems my creativ...

Purple Mountain Majesty

So often I find my self wanting to live somewhere that's more green, and has more rain,  somewhere I can garden and grow hydrangeas. That somewhere is NOT here in Nevada where I live.  I grew up in the Las Vegas Valley. When people hear "Las Vegas" it's the glitz and glamour of the Las Vegas Strip that they think of,  probably just like when I hear New York, I think of 42nd street and Times Square.  But, the glitz and glamour is not what I "see" everyday. I see this. Just when I start to feel sad that I can't grow hydrangeas, or I haven't seen rain in months,  God shows me some of the most beautiful colors that surround me everyday.  While I STILL hope to live near the water someday, where it's green. I will try to "see" the beauty that surrounds me now. "Home" in the Desert I really dislike when people think they can just dump their unwanted things in the desert.  But, for the sake of photography,  I kind of lik...

Photo Montage

This weekend I spent some more time practicing in Photoshop.  I don't think I'm as happy with these as I was my two previous photo montages in   this post , but I thought I'd share them anyway.  After all, it's about sharing the experience,  and improving right?  Hydrangea Girl (background texture, Kim Klassen, hydrangea photos are mine, and the image of the girl, The Graphics Fairy) Playing in the Sunshine (photo of the little girl is my Mother, sunface, flowers, & music are mine, background texture, Shadowhouse Creations) Thanks so much for dropping by!  Have a great week.  Becca
