A "Real" Pumpkin Farm

Hi Friends! 

My favorite month of October is coming to an end.

A couple of weeks ago, the "hubs" and me jumped into our car and 

drove north an hour or so to  

Gordon Skagit Farms

I have a lot of photos to share with you, so I won't bore you with 

too many more words.  I think this place speaks for itself. 

What a fun time we had that day! 






























































This was my first time visiting a "real" pumpkin patch/farm, and 

I had to laugh when I remembered 

living in Las Vegas and how excited I would get 

when the dusty, vacant lot next to the shopping center set up a 

pumpkin patch.  

You'd be out there, breaking a sweat picking out a pumpkin

because the desert hot sun was still in the 80's! Lol

WOW...things have certainly changed and I'm loving it!

Wonderful fotos of this pumpkin farm. I love autumn....I always go to the pumpkin patches around here ....love the colors and all the shapes of the assorted pumpkins and such. Your pumpkins with the doilies look so pretty! I just got caught up on your blog.....awhhh kitty on the desk, how sweeeeet. Hope you are doing well...

What an amazing patch! Real pumpkin patches are hard to come by as are cut your own Christmas trees. We are actually considering starting a farm which will become our children's business. By the time the seedlings grow and are ready to cut, they'll be old enough to work it. In the meantime, pumpkins might not be a bad idea. Your post and photos are fantastic!!

It's beautiful! And here in South Texas, we're still breaking a sweat picking out pumpkins. It's in the high 80s low 90s. Where is the cool weather this year?

Fall is full of so many wonderful colors and sites isn't it? I wish it lasted longer out here on the prairies. Alas we are nothing but white now. I think it's here to stay now for a few months. Oh well.

fab photos..we went pumpking picking for the first time this year but the field only had a few pumpkins but we managed to get 5 decent ones..I like it that they are mis shapen and not perfect like in the shops

Watercolor on Tea Bags

Hello Friends!  Hope you are enjoying your weekend, especially  if this is a long weekend for you!  It seems like I've been drinking a lot of tea lately, so I  thought it was time to get out my tea bags  and get creative!  This is a mixed-media piece on watercolor paper. First, I tore pieces of the tea bags and glued them to the  watercolor paper to start my background. This is another piece I started just today where I decided to use a rubber stamp before applying the tea bags for added interest.  I love the color and texture the tea bags create.  After the background was dry, I started to sketch out my design.   The dragonfly is a rubber stamp. Finally, a little simple hand stitching on linen for added texture. The light was so beautiful and inviting on my desk today. Oh, and don't you just love my new pencil box I got at the  second-hand store for 97 cents?

The Art of A Rain Chain

"Art"   is probably not the first word that comes to mind for most people when it rains.  If you have ever seen a  Rain Chain   then maybe you'll understand why I think of it this way.  copper, metal, patina, design, texture, beauty... peaceful,  mesmerizing... If you've read my blog for some time, you might remember, this "desert girl" is fascinated with  rain chains. :-) I'm still traveling...Seattle...it's raining... Creating Art with Tea Bags

As summer approaches and the sunshine is plentiful here in the  desert southwest, I drink a lot of this... Making sun tea here only takes a short time. I've been using 6 regular size tea bags for the above container. (I like a pretty strong flavor)  You can add sugar or not, I enjoy it with a little mint leaves & lemon and  sometimes an added sweetener.  I started having so many tea bags and I've seen my friend Kimmie   create art with them, so I thought I'd give it a try!  I just let the bags completely dry,  remove the tag & staple then open them up carefully and empty the tea. Open the bags at the seam line and this is what you have,  beautifully tea stained papers for collage, sewing, etc.  Here, I used old dictionary book paper to create my flower design on water color paper.  I painted the flowers with watercolors.  Collaged torn tea bags onto the background, then stitched around  each flower for dimension.  This book mark I made using water
