Inspiration & Techniques


I love canvas collage! Canvas is such a fun medium to work with. Paints, papers, gel medium, molding paste, oil pastels...fun, fun, fun!
One of my favorite mixed media artists, Kelly Rae Roberts has a wonderful book out called Taking Flight. Kelly shows you some different techniques to help you create your own work. In the book she gives you thought provoking quotes along with encouraging stories. One of the things I find most difficult is learning to "face your fears." You see from my photo that I haven't started the face yet...(my fear).


This is a great book. Even if her art is not your style, like it is mine, just reading this book will lift your spirits and give you the push you might need to "Take Flight"

Watercolor on Tea Bags

Hello Friends!  Hope you are enjoying your weekend, especially  if this is a long weekend for you!  It seems like I've been drinking a lot of tea lately, so I  thought it was time to get out my tea bags  and get creative!  This is a mixed-media piece on watercolor paper. First, I tore pieces of the tea bags and glued them to the  watercolor paper to start my background. This is another piece I started just today where I decided to use a rubber stamp before applying the tea bags for added interest.  I love the color and texture the tea bags create.  After the background was dry, I started to sketch out my design.   The dragonfly is a rubber stamp. Creating Art with Tea Bags

As summer approaches and the sunshine is plentiful here in the  desert southwest, I drink a lot of this... Making sun tea here only takes a short time. I've been using 6 regular size tea bags for the above container. (I like a pretty strong flavor)  You can add sugar or not, I enjoy it with a little mint leaves & lemon and  sometimes an added sweetener.  I started having so many tea bags and I've seen my friend Kimmie   create art with them, so I thought I'd give it a try!  I just let the bags completely dry,  remove the tag & staple then open them up carefully and empty the tea. Open the bags at the seam line and this is what you have,  beautifully tea stained papers for collage, sewing, etc.  Here, I used old dictionary book paper to create my flower design on water color paper.  I painted the flowers with watercolors.  Collaged torn tea bags onto the background, then stitched around  each flower for ...

It's a Crochet Thing….

Hi friends!   Well, I said I'd be back with some crochet stuff I've been working on,  I just didn't think it would take me so long.  So, I found this cute coaster pattern on line that uses "jute"  and yarn. They were easy to make, and the yarn adds so much to them,  don't you think?   Look at the back, I think even the back looks interesting!  Click  HERE  for the link if you want to make these.  I've been working on this afghan for a while now.  I love it because the squares have been pretty  easy to make even while watching TV.  The colors remind me of the blue hydrangeas I love so much!  Finally, I've been going nuts about adding crocheted edgings on things.  I made a couple of tea towels for gifts, and I'm still  working on more of these.  Don't you just love ticking fabric?  Well, there ya ha...
