Some Flowers and Crochet to help make your day!

Image
Hi Friends… Need a little pick me up?   I could sure use one today!  It's rainy and chilly this morning…I even turned on the fireplace to  take off the chill…it's June!  Wow.  I love when the weather does this though... It's a nice change this time of year.  It's a perfect day to just read a book, but I can't  seem to stay focused on one. It's supposed to be back into the sunny 70's and 80's next week, so  looks like this chilly, rainy day and hopefully my mood will be  short lived!  There's so much busyness going on, like with this bee,  and just too many things  taking up space in my head right now.  I tend to worry needlessly about things that haven't even happened. It's so frustrating and such a waste of time, but how do you change that about yourself? Don't you hate it when you feel that way?   I th...

The Dogwood Tree

Image
Hi friends!  Just dropping by to say hello. It seems as though the Dogwood tree in our garden  has even more blossoms on it  this year than it did last. I love how it looks as though the blossoms are  weighing down the branches. The tree was here when we moved in 2 years ago, so I don't really  know how old it is.  I'm guessing it's a fairly young tree though. My mother loved Dogwood blossoms/trees, so I was  thrilled to discover I would have one in my garden to  enjoy and remind me of her.  Have you ever read about the legend of the Dogwood?  In Jesus' time, the dogwood grew  To a stately size and a lovely hue.  'Twas strong and firm it's branches interwoven  For the cross of Christ its timbers were chosen.  Seeing the distress at this use of their wood  Christ made a promise which still holds good:  "Never again shall the dogwoo...

May Happenings and some Vintage Crochet

Image
Hi friends!   Wow!  Here we are into May already.  I still can't keep up  with everything I want to do!  I did manage to cut a few of the neighbor's lilacs again this spring  to enjoy indoors.  Oh the fragrance!  Still working on my stash of linen yarn…I love this stuff for projects!  I'm also excited to tell you, a couple of my embroidery pieces were published in  this issue of Better Homes & Gardens  Make it Yourself magazine!  They really did a nice layout of my pieces!  Lots of other fun things in this issue if you happen to see it and want to  check it out.  I even saw this magazine at our local grocery store as  well as the big booksellers.  Another little project I've been trying to prefect is this little linen and burlap  lavender sachet.  I'm loving the look of the linen with the burlap...

Days of Sun

Image
Happy Friday everyone!  Just thought I'd take a few moments to pop in and share  some sunny photos with you.  Has it been sunny where you are?  We're still getting our rainy days, but boy when that sun comes out,  it feels so good!  I try to get my dose of vitamin D by hanging out on our top deck with my  crochet or a good book for a while.  It's also been fun to walk down to the local bakery for a loaf of   fresh sourdough!  Walking back home, uphill makes me feel  less guilty about eating a couple of pieces.  When the days are clear, we get a tiny peek of the snow capped Olympic Peninsula.  I've planted a couple of container plants on the deck that are sun loving,  and should do well up there this summer when we don't get much rain.  This one is actually a berry.  Not sure if I will actually see berries on it this summ...

Springtime and the Crochet Saga Continues

Image
Hi friends!   Can you believe April is upon us already?  We've had an abundant amount of rain.  The trees and flowers love the rain as much as I do, and everything is so green.  I love this early blooming Rhododendron in our garden that we get to  see from our little kitchen.   This is a new doily I've been working on with some thread I already had in my stash.  With only a couple more rows to go,  I realized I needed a little more thread.  So, when I went online to order it, I discovered this color is no longer available.    Surprisingly enough, I couldn't even find it on Etsy or Ebay. Oh well…I really didn't have any plans for it, but here's the thing... I was kind of digging how this color looks with denim so I think I'll pull it all out and just use the thread for smaller projects or even crochet appliqué on  a denim skirt.   Wha...

Happy Spring!

Image
Happy spring everyone!  How are you my friends?  Don't you just love seeing flowers appear and have you noticed how pretty and happy the birds sound now?  This month has been very, very rainy and I have enjoyed every minute of it!  I've been doing lots of crocheting, reading and drinking tea on the rainy days.  I know lots of people hate the rain, but it's why things are so green here!  I love to walk in the garden just after the rain. (or sometimes even "in" the rain)  The bottles I have out there now are so colorful. This year I'm working on putting together a bottle tree for our  garden, have you seen them before?  So many daffodils popping up and next  will be the tulips.  Can you see them below the daffodils starting to  come up?  I know now that moss is really not a good thing to have, but I do so love ...
