Around the House

Image
Hello friends!  Just checking in…how are you?  Lots of just being cozy around the house.  I love that kind of day, don't you?  We had a day of snow a couple of weeks ago.  (yes, I said "a day." it's all rain again now)  I know…most of you are sick of snow and want winter to be over. I get that…I'm looking forward to spring too, but I just had to  share a quick "feel" of our snow day here since we rarely get the white stuff.  Lucy spends a lot of her time on the window seat in my studio.  She has a view of the birds and squirrels and a cozy bed when she  gets too tired from all the action.    I think this squirrel wants me to quit taking photos and get out there and  give him some peanuts. I love this photo below, power lines and all.  It really gives a feel of that snowy day looking out over Lake Washington  from our...

Getting Back to Normal

Image
Whew!  These past few weeks have been a little crazy here in Seattle.  I think I'm finally coming down from my football high.  (yes, I love football AND crochet. :-)  *** I've been wanting to pick up my paintbrush again and work with watercolors.  I found a really great book that teaches you how to mix the paint.  I'm the kind of artist that thinks I need to stay within the lines and I hate that  about myself, so I'm working on it.   I've used watercolor before, but I paint so exact that the finished piece doesn't  even look like watercolor. This book teaches you how to let one color run into the other.  I'm really enjoying the process.  My friend,  Linda  introduced me to this book, and I  finally finished it today.  Loved it!  I'm thinking of Snow Falling on Cedars next, have you read it?  So, in my crochet worl...

A Little Steampunk Fix

Image
Hi everyone!   No soft and fluffy yarn and crochet in today's post.   Instead, I thought I'd give you a little bit of rust or you might say,  Steampunk heaven in Seattle.  Welcome to  Gasworks Park When we moved to Seattle,  the first time I noticed this park was from a boat on  Lake Union.   We were out with friends touring the area in a boat where the floating homes are,  and I saw this beautiful hilly, grassy area with some kind of strange, rusty looking industrial stuff.  In the summer, people are out flying kites, having picnics or just hanging  out on the grass here.  It's such a beautiful view of the city.  I happend to drive over on a cloudy day, so the views of the city were  not so great.  Still, in January I met a few people out with their  dogs throwing frisbees!   The grass is lovely, even in w...

It's a Crochet Thing….

Image
Hi friends!   Well, I said I'd be back with some crochet stuff I've been working on,  I just didn't think it would take me so long.  So, I found this cute coaster pattern on line that uses "jute"  and yarn. They were easy to make, and the yarn adds so much to them,  don't you think?   Look at the back, I think even the back looks interesting!  Click  HERE  for the link if you want to make these.  I've been working on this afghan for a while now.  I love it because the squares have been pretty  easy to make even while watching TV.  The colors remind me of the blue hydrangeas I love so much!  Finally, I've been going nuts about adding crocheted edgings on things.  I made a couple of tea towels for gifts, and I'm still  working on more of these.  Don't you just love ticking fabric?  Well, there ya ha...

Letting the Cat out of the Bag

Image
It's no secret here, that nothing starts the New Year off better than a new  paper bag to play with!  What is it with cats and bags?  I had this bag left over from Christmas I was going to use it to take a few things to Goodwill. Lucy had other ideas for it. All that wrestling with a paper bag can get you tired out,  so then you need to nap in the sunshine.  Ah…the Good Life!  I'm playing along with a 365 photo a day on Instagram. Each week they give you prompts for your photos. Lucy helped me with  the prompt "Cliche" I used the first photo for: Whatever you do, don't let the cat out of the bag! You can find me HERE  if you want to see more. Have a great week! I have some crochet goodies to show you next time. :-) Becca

Happy New Year!

Image
Just dropping in to wish you a Happy New Year!  2013 was full of some fun local travels and discoveries of our  beautiful new home in Washington.  I was thrilled to even have a bit of snow for a day right before Christmas!  (no laughing east coast friends!)  Loved watching the little birds hop around on the deck in the snow.  Winter sky over Lake Washington.  Have a safe and Happy New Year!  See you all in 2014!  Becca

Season of Light

Image
Hi Friends!  How's your holiday season going?  Not too stressful I hope. One of my favorite things about the Christmas season is "light." I love the warm glow of holiday lights everywhere!  It gets dark so early up here, so it seems like Christmas lights come on  earlier in the day.  Our lights come on about 4pm.  I love this time because the sky still  has a bit of color to add to the "magic."  I light candles, make a cup of hot cocoa,  and simply enjoy the peacefulness of the season  by the warmth of the fireplace. I had fun this year with "this old house" we're living in. We decided to put our tree up in the front room which is what we call  our "piano room." (since my piano takes up most of the room) :-) I found some ribbon with music notes on it to add to the theme of the room,  and since the wall color is sort of a "vin...
