Lacecap Hydrangea

My first love of the hydrangea was the

"Mophead" variety...those big, rounded blooms were unmistakeable in their appearance,

and caught my attention straight away!

Now, living here in the PNW, I'm starting to notice other varieties.

This is the Lacecap Hydrangea

...more delicate than their bold, Mophead relative.

Yet, still has a stunning statement to make.

A bumblebee's paradise.

A photographer's joy.

I simply couldn't get enough of this beauty this day.

At home, near the coast, their colors blend so nicely.

Blue, lavender, purplish pink...

Lovely, lacy centers.

If only you could capture the tiny buds as they open.

I hope you enjoy these...

I know I got carried away!

Almost Friday my friends...

WOW the color is just amazing! Look at these beauties! I have always called these Grandma or Grandmother flowers because my Grandmother (and other friend's grandmothers) always had these in their front yards when I was growing up. I always thought they were so gorgeous.

Becca, these are just beautiful!
Here, the lace-cap is called an Angel's Parasol hydrangea.
It is my favorite of the hydrangeas.

No, you didn't get carried away. It just helps me pretend that I am standing in my Mother's garden. That is the kind of hydrangea that she has. I LOVE the laceheads. Their color is so incredibly beautiful!

I just picked some hydrangeas today. I love them too!! You solved a mystery for me with your post. I have 4 different plants and I thought there was a problem with 2 that only produced lacey like blossoms. Now I know I have two different varieties, one of which is the lacecap. Mystery solved! Thanks for posting, Linda

Great photos of one of my favorite flowers! A friend just used the big blue flowers in an arrangement very effectively. Have you seen the oakleaf hydrangea? It's quite pretty too. We are headed off to the OR Coast for a few days.....
I too love hydrangeas...unfortunately too cold to grow them where i live (except indoors). Beautiful photos!
