Painting on Fabric

Probably many of us can remember being a very young age and getting caught scribbling or painting on the walls.
Well, I must have been pretty young, I don't actually remember it, but my mom always teased me about it as I got older.

I do remember however, that I LOVED to "color" with my friend Kelly.  We would spend hours with our coloring books and crayons.
I can see myself as a child, lying on the floor with my favorite coloring book, tongue sticking out, trying my hardest to
  "stay within the lines."

With that said, I think I probably still stick my tongue out sometimes when I paint!
I painted this piece on fabric with acrylic paints.  To add more character and another medium I sat down at my sewing machine and free-motioned stitched all the lines, only this time I just let it be messy and not worry about going outside the lines.
I kind of like that it's called "free-motion" stitching don't you?

I can tell this painting on fabric, then stitching over it is going to become habit forming.
It sure was fun!

I'm linking up again with
Paint Party Friday
Thanks for another great week of painting fun!
I also wanted to join in with the fun I've been seeing at
Artist's in Blogland
So much inspiration out there!

Happy Friday everyone!
I feel a bit behind reading blogs.  I'm looking forward to some time this weekend to get caught up.
It's supposed to be beautiful weather here, so I'll be sitting outside doing a bit of blog hopping.
What are you doing this weekend?

I love what you have done here. Free-motion sewing is such fun - I have also tried a few things - its such fun to try new ideas and experiment with all sorts of different mediums and styles.

Amazing colors and beautiful work Becca! Good job, I lake it!

Have a great weekend, kisses:)

your post made me so nostalgic as I can totally remember spending ages colouring in and trying not to go outside the line either!!

I love what you've done here - I've never tried painting on fabric - are those special paints for that? Free-motion is a fantastic name for this kind of stitching and I really like how it is deliberately not being careful - the effect is so much more pleasing!
Happy PPF. This weekend we'll mostly be curled up on the sofa in front of the wood burning stove as its set to be cold and wet (as always!)

Fun! Love your free motion work. I love doing it on my art quilts. Also I use crayons on fabric, then iron out the wax. Leaves very nice colors and then you can free motion the design or whatever. I'm fixing to do a baby quilt for my niece, from coloring book designs. I always loved coloring too. Happy PPF.

Ooo... this is wonderful, Becca! I love the bold stitching around the bright, colorful shapes--it just makes it all "pop" even more! And I like the idea of painting on fabric. Canvas, what I paint on now, is a fabric... But this you're doing is different fun. I was a coloring & crayons kind of girl too. Still am. ;o) A fresh blank book and some Crayolas or markers, better than Christmas! haha... Enjoy the weekend :o) ((HUGS))

I love painting on fabric and then stitching, or stitching and then coloring it in with my water soluble crayons. It is quite addicting. Your painting is lovely. Have fun this weekend.

Great colorful doodles. I don't remember scribling on walls either. ::) But I do remember traumatizing about going outside the lines in the coloring book. I still remember it today. :)

Gorgeous!

Love the vibrant colours you chose. The stitching does give a lovely effect - will it be something eventually (like a pillow or...)?
Wow, Becca. You had me at "fabric." I adore this beauty. Sorry I've been gone for what seems like days on end, but I'm back now to catch up on your posts. And I really, really like how you painted on fabric. Stunning.

I wish my machine did free motion stitching. But I still try to follow some of my paintings this way. I like that it truly IS free motion.

Oh, and you asked what the weekend was bringing....
We're hosting a little show of our own with 6 vendors called the Ester Crafty Bizarro in the little village adjacent to Fairbanks. It's special to me because The other vendors are my son and his friends. He's been printing up some T-shirts and things. It's my first Mother- son show and I think we'll have fun even if no one shows although with all of the social networking now the word may have gotten out more than I think.

oh wow - I am so drawn to this! The colors and patterns are amazing, and I love the free motion stitching. The outlining makes the flowers pop off the background, and the looseness of it gives it so much energy. I am "sewing impaired" and admire the fabric artists of the world.

This is so beautiful with such vibrant colour. What a wonderful idea to use stitching as the lines. It works so well.
