Purple Mountain Majesty

So often I find my self wanting to live somewhere that's more green, and has more rain,
somewhere I can garden and grow hydrangeas.
That somewhere is NOT here in Nevada where I live.

I grew up in the Las Vegas Valley.
When people hear "Las Vegas" it's the glitz and glamour of the Las Vegas Strip that they think of,
probably just like when I hear New York, I think of 42nd street and Times Square.

But, the glitz and glamour is not what I "see" everyday.
I see this.

Just when I start to feel sad that I can't grow hydrangeas, or I haven't seen rain in months,
God shows me some of the most beautiful colors that surround me everyday.

While I STILL hope to live near the water someday, where it's green.
I will try to "see" the beauty that surrounds me now.

"Home" in the Desert

I really dislike when people think they can just dump their unwanted things in the desert.
But, for the sake of photography,
I kind of liked this shot as a representation of
me, living in the desert of Las Vegas, Nevada.
After all, this is my home, it's all I've ever known, and I will try to "see" and share the beauty of it when I can.

Hope you enjoyed my photos.
Thank you for your visits and comments!
I have a couple of days off, and I look forward to visiting you to see what's been going on in your neck of the woods.

Ciao,
Becca

Your photos truly show the beauty that is Nevada!
And we can only hope that the people who dumped their furniture there got a flat tire on the way home. ;-)

Here in our part of the country an old sofa like that is just prime for placing on a front porch. Then they sit and pick their banjos. LOL Oh wait... that's the state next door.

LOL

Nature has a way of making everyone's home beautiful--wonderful photos!!
I agree, people shouldn't throw their old stuff in the desert. But that red couch shot is just too cool!!

Hey Becca!
That is such a national thing...dumping couches in the country! Drives me nuts . We see it all the time and on trails in the mountain! Back home is just as bad!
These photos are beautiful!!!!
But i have to say it is rougher landscapes isn't it? Like parts of Canada to me seem tough.
I don't blame you for wanting green and hydrangeas! My cousin back home lives in Northern Ontario..very cold in winter and she cannot grow hydrangeas.
They have to be one of my favourites.

Don't worry Becca God hears you!!!

It might not be that great for you but honestly it is wonderful for me to see where others live. I am living now back in the Transvaal and we have lots of rain. Yes of course we enjoy all the things that you are missing, but it gets tiresome too sometimes. ;o)

Wonderful images. Seeing the beauty in our everyday world takes a special eye. You've certainly caught it here.

Really??? Someone just dumped a couch off in the middle of the desert??? Oh my stars!

But I must say, it did indeed make for a very interesting photo! Excellent!

Happy Weekend Becca!

Beautiful photos, Becca...you really captured the colors and shadows...
We are having free dump days this weekend and everyone is certainly taking advantage of it! Sometimes I think if they didn't charge so much for taking things to the dump people wouldn't dump in the desert. Anyway, love the backlight on the mountains (that is what we call it in AZ)..my e-mail is molliedog1@msn.com Need to talk to you about something concerning pay it forward...

We drive 8 hours almost every other week-end to spend time in the Mojave Reserve-not far from where you live. We find the country beautiful. I know it is not green and lush but there is a stark beauty there and you capture it well. People are jerks to leave their trash like that! It makes me angry. Your post got my emotions going in many ways.

It is beautiful Becca and you're right, it's that which is right in front of us that we don't see, or don't appreciate. It's as though we see it for what it isn't rather than what it is.
Your photos are beautiful, once again.
Thanks for sharing them, jillayne
